Arizona 2008

In January 2008, we went to the annual Arizona Power Blast
Regional Tournament.  It was our 3rd time going.  Dee, Pete,
Riley, Jerry, Nick, and Robert went.  Most of us were their 2 days
before the tournament.

Thursday night was one on one's.  Robert and Jerry did them.
They did not place but it was all for fun.  We met up with our old
pal Hayden, who plays for Arizona Heat.  He was our rent a goalie
1 year ago.  One of our players passed away, and another player
chair kept breaking.  So we were down to two players.

On Friday, our first game was at 8am against AZ Heat.  The score
was 11-0.  Our second game was against Canada.  It was our
hardest game.  The score was 3-1.  We played 2 more games that
day and won them too.

Saturday morning was our semi-final game against BORP Bay
Fire.  The coach of Team USA was also the coach of this team.
They had 9 players. [way to many for a tournament.]  The score
was 7-0.  COURAGE MADE THE FINALS.
Our final game was against GLASA.  It was a suspenseful game.
They came close to scoring but never did.  Score was 3-0.
Courage won their 1st tournament.  Everyone was filled with joy.
Duluth Tournament 2008

Courage Blizzards and Courage Duluth Thunder were the only teams at the tournament.  The fun
started at 9am.  We showed Courage Thunder what we did at practice.  It was more of a learning
experience.  Courage Thunder is a new team.  They need a team to show them how to play the game
and to improve their skills.  It was good practice for us before the national tournament.  We played a
2 Blizzards on 4 Thunders.  This showed the Blizzards passing is key.  We ended the day at 3pm.
Some of the Blizzards went back to the hotel and went for a swim.
National Tournament 2008

Nationals were in Swanee, Georgia.  Seven players went to nationals, Deandra, Pete, Riley, Robert, Nathan, Nick, and Michaela.  Most of us drove,  it was about
20 hours.

The games started Friday at 9am.  We played Turnstone Fantastic Flyers, they won.  But our 2nd game xable taped it, and we won.  We had dinner with some of
the referees, it was fun.

Saturday we played Indy Storm, we won.  Now off to the Semi-final game against Turnstone Fearless Flyers.  One of their players chairs was to fast, but they still
won.  We went back to the hotel and went swimming.

Our 3rd place game was on Sunday against GLASA Fire.  We played them in Arizona finals. The last goal was made by Deandra, she had a kick in by GLASA's
goal.  They thought she was going to pass it to a team mate but she hit it right in.  GLASA didn't know you could hit right into the goal  from the side line. Courage
Blizzards won and got 3rd place.

The banquet was awesome!  There was a guy with horns taped all over him.  He could play songs by moving his body.  He made the coaches try it.  Awards were
given to Team USA and Xable.  Then the trophy's were given to the placing teams.
St. Louis February 14-15th

St. Louis was not a qualifier but it counted towards our record.  Deandra, Michaela, Nick B, and Aubrey traveled.  It was about a ten hour drive.   The games started
Saturday morning, 9a.m.  We were undefeated.  The banquet Was Saturday night.  The semi-final game was against the DASA Firecrackers.  It was a close game but we
pulled threw.  The fist place game ended in a tie so we went into  overtime.  We scored but they scored in the last minute so another overtime.  No one scored.  We went
into a shoot out, Columbia scored 1, we scored 1.  Still tied. The next step is sudden death shoot out.  Deandra scored the winning goal.
Monticello March 21-22nd

This tournament was close to home, friends and relatives got to see the real game.  It was held in a nice facility, great food and a good atmosphere.  10 D2
teams participated.  The referees were very strict, there was a lot of "3 in the box" and "2 on 1" calls. There was more yellow and red cards than we have
ever seen.  Even Deandra got a red card, her first one!  She went behind the goalie and goal line to try to stop a goal.  She had to sit out the next game
against Fearless Flyers, our worst enemy.  The score was 0-7, it was a rough game.  Play-offs were on Sunday.  Blizzard lost to DASA Fire and Madison
Marauders but won against Kokomo Spinners.  The banquet was great.  Every team and athlete received an award.  The top 3 teams qualify for nationals.
Here are the rankings

1st place- Courage Thunder
2nd place- Turnstone Fearless Flyers
3rd place-   Kokomo Spinners

Courage Blizzard placed 8th
